The undercard for the upcoming Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry light heavyweight clash has been officially announced by Matchroom Boxing, and it includes Shakur Stevenson facing Joe Cordina in the chief support bout. This placement on the undercard is surprising for WBC lightweight champion Stevenson, as he has been a dominant force in the boxing world with a record of 22-0 and 10 KOs. However, Stevenson has recently faced criticism from fans due to two lackluster performances, which has led to a decrease in his appeal. Many fans were hoping to see Stevenson face tougher opponents such as Raymond Muratalla, Edwin De Los Santos, or Andy Cruz in the co-feature slot instead of Cordina.
One of the standout matchups on the undercard is the heavyweight rematch between Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke. This fight is anticipated to be the most exciting and competitive bout of the night, offering fans a clash between two skilled fighters in the heavyweight division. Wardley and Clarke are expected to deliver an action-packed fight that will keep the audience on the edge of their seats.
The remaining portion of the undercard consists of showcase fights where well-known fighters are pitted against opponents they are expected to easily defeat. While these fights may showcase the skills of the fighters, they lack the competitiveness and thrill that fans look for in undercard matchups. One such disappointment is middleweight Chris Eubank Jr.’s bout against Kamil Szeremeta, a non-contender. Eubank Jr. should be matched against top-ranked opponents at this stage of his career, especially if he hopes to secure a fight against boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez.
Shakur Stevenson’s opponent, former IBF super featherweight champion Joe Cordina, has never fought at lightweight and is coming off a disappointing eighth-round knockout in his last fight. Despite claims that Cordina was weight drained, his lackluster performances in previous fights raise doubts about his ability to compete at the highest level. Fans expected to see Cordina face tougher opposition that could truly test his skills in the ring.
