The talks regarding a potential fight between WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson and former IBF 130-lb champion Joe Cordina have been confirmed by promoter Eddie Hearn. Cordina, who boasts a record of 17-1 with 9 KOs, is looking to make his debut at 135 for this bout. However, despite the early-stage discussions, no agreement has been reached yet. At 32 years old, Cordina seems eager for the challenge, while Stevenson appears excited about the prospect of facing him. Stevenson had initially planned to defend his title against #1 WBC William Zepeda, but this has been delayed as Zepeda aims to fight him in February, coinciding with Terence Crawford’s next bout.
A Brave Move by Cordina
It is indeed a bold move on Cordina’s part to move up in weight class and take on one of the top fighters in the lightweight division in Shakur Stevenson. Known for his willingness to take risks, Cordina sees this fight as a challenge he is ready to embrace.
